because I have been on the cutting edge of headlights on the L300, and block heaters on the L400... In both cases all the "resourceful" importers said "impossible" until someone else on the forum actually did it.

Anyway sorry to bring this back up to the top as i do not want to keep flogging a dead horse!
As Jessie put the price is what it is and there is no other source for the lights other than Mitsubishi.
Mitsubishi dealers here can order the lights you just have to find one who is willing to go the extra mile and effort but it still makes the lights no cheeper as they come from Japan via the U.S to Canada and can actually take longer to get here!
If ever there is an aftermarket option that becomes avaliable then the price may drop but until then the price is what it is.

You're right. People are resourceful. That's why some dealers have established connections already and are bringing in the lights in bulk and I'm sorry but they are not paying $1200 per set. No dealer would cut that far into their profit by paying $1200 for a pair of headlights. And if they are, then either I'm an idiot or they have little business sense. I spoke to Mardy and he says I could buy a set off of him for about $800 (if I remember correctly) but that it would take about 3 months to get them. Now I would bet that is not the price he's paying for them. Correction Mardy?

Anyways, if you're happy with the effort you've put in (which is a good effort I'd have to say) and are content to sit back and wait to see what others find then I understand. However a solution was found with the L300's as you pointed out, and I'm hoping one will be found for the L400. But it won't happen unless we keep digging, pressuring the dealers, looking in other countries, etc...

As far as local Mitsu dealers here, if they operate like Toyota does then you give them a part # and they see if it comes up. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I was away all weekend and will check this week but I'm not sure about the part #. Can anyone confirm the depo #?

o.k. Tristan,
just to inform you way back feb this year. i ask for a help to find this new L400 headlight. either dealer or individual. for the past 21/2 month that time nobody help me either part number orany Replacement source of headlight for L400. finally i give up & source this back home.
they dont give me any part number just headight. i spend almost nearly $2,500 loss on the headlight just to get it. trial & error which one is correct, but finally they got it send it to me & check it. which is the right one.
but they have condition i have to meet they want to make money also. so they jack up the price for this & a min. of 10 pairs per order prepaid nearly 3 month if we can get it.
so i bite it as i need the vehicle to be complied. so no choice. as i dont want to sell the car that is not comply. icbc is very strict on this one now. as they also know about this headlight isssue.
i try to call 2 big company in taiwan for replacement headligth. DEPO & TYC.
Depo dont have it & will never made one for LHD. as the quata wont reach there expectation. thru business investment. so no luck. try to call TYC. yes they have but right hand drive country. with same E13 mark on it but only one mark. i buy it & show it to my inspector as sample but no luck as this is not the right beam pattern for LHD but instead RHD.my inspector failed it. so i did not continue to buy this or by pass the right compliance headlight. i see some vehicle registered & insured without changing headight for L400 or changing the healdight with TYC headlight on it.with one mark E13 which is TYC. i have nothing to do with this ,its there choice & up to them if they want to do this. i do respect there decision & idea. its up to them. nothing to say.
as per this L400 headlight. there is no other way for now but only original mitsubishi headlight & its out of stock in germany. no replacement for now been searching for the past 8 month now i give up.
so i decided to go to the expensive way & the right one as we are in canada dealing with compliance issue. no other choice for me. but to install modified headlight i wont do this as its not nice for this L400. but again its up to the owner & seller what to do, i do respect them what ever they do to there car.
but to do investment for this L400. i wont do it as its too far expensive. i only buy for my stock nothing else as i cannot afford it.
hopefully i answer & help issue regarding this new L400 headlight. its very hard.

If you go by your lonesome and order through Germany just one or two sets, you'll likely pay between 1,000-1,200 depending on which shipping option you choose and the current exchange rate CDN/EURO.

I paid $943 shipped with the exchange rate (can drastically change your cost) for my last set and then duty and taxes on top of that. I had it shipped air parcel since I didn't want to be stuck with our Spacegear sitting without being driven waiting for the lights to arrive.

And to anyone who's never done this before (imported parts from outside of Canada), be prepared to have the box(es) held by customs for days, weeks or possibly months. Knock on wood and hope this doesn't happen, but it always can. I'm not familiar with what customs deems necessary to hold for any period of time but when I imported my L300 lights years ago, I had two sets being held for 7 weeks after they landed. I was pretty upset over that as you can imagine.

Nissan Canada is the only manufacturer where you can walk into any of the dealerships here and order every single little part off any JDM Nissan vehicle. It's quite amazing.

Toyota is close, but not quite there as far as JDM's are concerned.

As for Mitsu L400 stuff including these headlights, these are the Mitsu dealer's I've physically went into and spoken with their manager in the parts & service department earlier this year and gave them all the part numbers under the sun:

Metrotown in Burnaby
Autohouse in Abbotsford
Valley in Kelowna (checked on our trip)
Mountain in Cranbrook (had a friend go and check)
Harris in Nanaimo
N Shore in North Van
Mitsu in Richmond

I think I may have confused you with my terminology... when I said "cutting edge" I meant that I was trying to find a way to do it before anyone had had any success, who actually found the solution is irrelevant to this discussion (though I do greatly appreciate it!) my point was simply that I have seen several "impossible" feats accomplished by dedicated members of this forum, and often the solution to the "impossible" problem turns out to be relatively simple.

for clarification... did you have the actual part number in hand? did you ask for the part by number? or did you say "I need LHD headlights for a Delica L400"... if you open with that line, you can pretty much kiss any chance of getting them goodbye, even if you DO have the part number... you have to open with the part number to get much success with the Mitsubishi dealers in Canada... "best backed cars in the world"??????? not so much...

Please read again Jesse. I was not calling you or anyone else except myself an idiot. I apologize for any misconception there. To further clarify, I said that I doubt that dealers would be paying $1200 per set as I know firsthand that there isn't a huge profit margin on JDM vehicles. What I meant is that they are buying bulk and are then able to cut the cost down. If we put together a list of people here needing the lights, we too could order in bulk and cut costs.

I know this won't help those of you with your vans already in Canada...

I bought my van from Zen Autoworks. They got it from Brave Auto in Japan. The North American headlights were installed in Japan by Brave for $800CAN.

If you're about to import an L400, get the lights changed in Japan.

Sorry Mardy I forgot to thank you for responding earlier. Thanks for the info.

It looks like I'm one step closer to getting a good parts connection in Germany. A friend is moving to Berlin for a year with his German wife and they're going to help me out. They'll be there in mid January.
I'm hoping I can at least get a supply available to everyone. What I'd like if possible is for anyone interested to say so here or we could start a new thread. Then I can have an idea of how many sets we'd be interested in and that may reduce prices. It may not. But a good connection would be good anyways to make things easier.

So let me know if you're interested in ordering headlights and then if and when we find a supply, we can move from there.
