Front Accessory Socket

Hey All....

So, I burned out the Front Accessory socket (lighter plug) - I was testing a heater that was drawing too much power .
Using this link on the UK forum:http://www.mdocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12347, I determined that the fuseable link on the socket burned out(the 15 amp fuse in the fusebox is good). I am a little reluctant to bypass the fuseable link. Has anyone done this?
If not is there a replacement part for this or should I just replace it with any accessory socket that fits?

put a new fusible link in if you are going to bypass the one there, and change the wires out for heavier gauge.

I would personally get rid of the fusible link, the fuse in the fuse box should be good enough, and what idiot designs a system where the wire on the back of the socket burns out before the fuse goes anyway???

Hey Loki....do you mean put in an inline fuse to replace the fusible link?

Green1....That's what I was thinking exactly, I just thought I would run it by the forum first.
I don't intend to use the socket for powering anything beyond an iPod anyhow (testing the heater was an exception - oops).

yeah I figure better safe than sorry so if there was a second fuse there it's probably for a reason, that wire might provide power to something other than the lighter/lighters that are on the fuse in the fuse box, the other reason I think that is that if that fusible link really is too big for the wires to the lighter, that makes me thing it not the only thing it's powering, Mitsu wouldn't do something like that I don't think, it would be a safety issue.
