High pressure fuel injectors

Mitsubishi Delica L400 production commenced in 1994 -- After much anticipation, the L400 arrived on Canadian Soil in 2009!

High pressure fuel injectors

Post by Van Diesel »

http://www.meaa-mea.com/products/p_injector.asp

I stumbled upon this site and got to thinking...

Would it be possible to install some kind of high pressure fuel injector system in a Delica?

I do not know what type of injection system is currently in the L400. If the fuel was even closer to atomization/vaporization, it would do all kinds of great things.

Does anyone know what it would take to install a system like this on our non-computer operated, old school diesels?

L300/L400's have a low-pressure injection pump that operates mechanically.

Changing the system to a high pressure injection system would be quite the undertaking.

I prefer the low psi/mech IP for these reasons :

-easy to work on
-multiple grades of diesel/oil/engine oil/veg oil/transmission/oil, etc... can be used and burned efficiently (IDI - indirect injection system)
-remove the battery, push start the van and drive as long as you want. The injection system being mechanical can still operate if your battery dies. Engine only need air/diesel to operate. A good failsafe.

Con's

-lower mpg/power compared to high PSI equivalent systems

well... according to the site you linked to... it would require a completely different engine, specifically a gasoline one...
