Feeling a bit down - pity party
Well, if anyone has been following my latest posts
you have probably gathered that I was in the midst
of getting my clutch release bearing done, and
at the same time the clutch pinion bearing done.
(this is my pity party remember ;) )
Ordered the 2 bearings.
This weekend we were going (wife and I) to drop
off the van to get fixed in another city and canoe (doing
an overniter), then pick it up.
Well the weather didn't cooperate. My wife stayed home
(and us without the kids for the weekend...) and I drove
to get the work done. What a long day.
The pinion bearing wasn't the right one (I had ordered these
from BC already) totally wrong size. We happened to find
out that a VW jetta pinion bearing was actually identical...
wow hey.. things are looking up..
Then looked at the release bearing and it was not quite the
same but it fit the shaft etc. But in the end it didn't
<sigh>
When the bearing engaged it would for some reason cause
a rattle against what we think is the clutch plate.
Anyway after a really long day.. did I mention long. I drove
home in a loaner.
Ups for the day.. well I got to try out a L400.
Downs... mine is sitting in the shop. A ways away (Neat looking
words those when put together).
Im wondering what this is now going to cost me.
Don't vote me off the Island. That's a different thread,
Almost feel like starting fresh.
But I know that's just one of those reactions. My heart is
sitting somewhere down in my gut at the moment.
Ah well.
My vodka isn't helping yet either. hmm
;)

p.s. I had some fun with my push bar and mounted my new
lights. They look snazzy. I would post some pics but.. the van
isn't here. lol. haha made myself laugh.

Re: Feeling a bit down - pity party
Cheer up mate, we all have times when we want to take matches and gas to our vehicle and just be done with it.
I remember once we replaced the engine in my Subaru. Put it all back together again, only to find that we had no spark. Spent until 4am trouble shooting it and getting absolutely nowhere. Spent the next day doing the same, then had to get it towed to an auto sparky on Monday to sort it out. I was in the same seat as you - how much is this going to cost me?
Actually, going through the same process again here at the moment. Had to do the clutch on Rusty a couple of weeks ago, now we have to do the timing chain... about sick of spending cash on him. Although I do get to spend a lot of time with Butch at CVI :)

Re: Feeling a bit down - pity party
Sounds like a fun adventure! At least it sounds like the people working on your vehicle sound intent on finding the solution rather than just giving up and using the "thats what you get for importng a vehicle" cop out. On the bright side you did (whether you wanted to or not) make a valuable discovery for the delica peeps...that VW Jetta pinion bearing crossover is good info. And don't worry that vodka will help before you know it.

Re: Feeling a bit down - pity party
I have to admit, owning Delooka is the first time I've felt this way.
But when I get my baby back, it's amazing how quickly one forgets how much trouble it's caused.
Ok, I do but my wife reminds me...alot!
L4 as a loaner? That's a pretty sweet deal.
This will be all but a bad dream.

Re: Feeling a bit down - pity party
My mistake on the name of the bearing.. not a pinion but a pilot bearing
for the clutch.
Anyway, yah,
This L400 is like driving a soccer van. Soft and cushy
I didn't mind the acceleration on the highway though.
Although the fuel gauge drops faster ;)

for the clutch.

Anyone want to come test drive the L400?
It's a swb model.

I thought the only loaners you got in Saskabush were Massey Fergussens

By the time you realize that my signature has no real message or life altering words of wisdom, you're too far into it to stop reading until you are finished

Fortunately, I was born with or inherited the "there is always something good in everything" dna strand.
Piss on the negative stuff and grab onto the good things.
Makes life much easier.
Clutch jobs always suck unless someone else competent is doing it for you !

Re: Feeling a bit down - pity party
Update:
Drove it home... half way and it started to make the
same noise, a little further and it got worse plus
it seems to not fully let go in gears 1-3
like there is drag.
And we were supposed to take it camping in northern ab
(from saskatoon) Any saskatoonians want to lend us their
deli for the weekend?
We might have to attach a tiny trailer to the car and go
anyways while dropping the van off in P.A... sidetrip.
(hope it makes it back)
We can't fit 6 in the car so well ,darn it anyway.
We will make something work out.
Im not going to stress over the possibility of the shop
screwing me over $/labor. Deal with it after it's fixed.
