My L400 soldiers along mightily under the burden of frequent in-town trips that are really too short for it. A moonth or so ago, CVI did a delica tune and the injector clean really helped.
So I'm heading off soon for a road trip to the interior, and I know I'll be putting about 500 hwy kms on the first day. Given the opportunity to blow through an entire tank of fuel in one straight session, I'm wondering about adding a little something to that tank of fuel, knowing it won't sit for long in the system.
I've read about everything from off-the-shelf injector cleaner additives, to a few litres of clean ATF, to a litre of gasoline (!) to ??? I have a diesel cetane-improver that I add to each tank, but I thought I'd perhaps try something with a bit more oomph. My gut tells me to put in something with some solvent properties, but I'm wondering what experiences others have had with their Delicas.
Thanks,
Tony.

Don't use gasoline, it is a solvent and will only thin you diesel and damage things. Get a true diesel injector cleaner from Ukranian Tire and go with that. I have heard you can put it right in the fuel filter. But, my guess is that an Italian Tune Up is best.tonydca wrote:My L400 soldiers along mightily under the burden of frequent in-town trips that are really too short for it. Re: Good injector cleaner additive for road trip?
Found an old thread that delicat wrote WRT acetone:
http://www.delica.ca/forum/acetone-as-d ... ht=acetone
On the TDiClub forum there are some exhaustive threads that conclusively prove pretty much sweet bugger-all in that it is hard to reproduce results accurately to account for differences in driving style, routes, etc.
But my Spidey-sense tells me that dirty injectors might benefit from a small amount of solvent, so I'll give the acetone a try next week and see what happens.

Butch did the full tear-down injector clean and re-install; I'm hoping for a little chemical warfareGolf Cart wrote:Did ya think to ask CVI ?tonydca wrote: A moonth or so ago, CVI did a delica tune and the injector clean really helped.
