How much do you guys smoke and what grade of diesel ? MPG?
Hey guys trying to get my pajero in the right spec for optimum fuel mileage, and fuel savings.
I had 1 fill up so far, running the 2.8L 4m40 5 spd transmission some highway some city with big tires I ran truck stop grade plane jane diesel. Filled it to the top, did notice this was smokey, not like oil or coolant smoke but soot smoke, some people say its because its "cheap diesel".
So I tossed in 30 bucks worth of Shell Vpower diesel and its quite a bit of an improvement. I also have that cetaine(sp?) additive that apparently boosts the levels, cleans everything up, and acts as a anti-gel, I toss a bit of that with every tank. One tank from fill to empty got me 590kms Mix driving does this sound about right.
Also while I am here my RPM gauge comes and goes occasionally, I will hit a bump and it will kick off some times a tap on the dash and its back on. Guess I need to look for a loose wire or connector?
Thanks
Steve

I had 9,6 L/100 km in the city with my first LWB Pajero (2,5L engine with manual transmission), K&N air filter, semi synthetic motor oil, no additives and...no smoke at all! Used Shell VPower, - no difference noticed...
13,41-14,02L/100km 90% city driving. LWB Pajero (2,8L engine with manual transmission), K&N air filter, full synthetic motor oil...put additives...smokes A LOT! especially at shifting points from 1 to 2, from 2 to 3rd gears...Going to shut down ERG valve and see the result...

2 packs a day, and whatever comes out of the Husky pump, 600+ k to the tank

½ pack a day, Camels, unfiltered, but I quit many years ago. Monty doesn't smoke at all unless he's cold. Regular diesel 'cause there's not much difference paying for the more expensive diesel.

Check your EGR valve. Remove it, clean it and install. If you really want to lower the smoke volume, install an EGR blanking plate (a few members sell them here).
On our 2.5 LWB Paj we got 10/11L 100km's mixed.
Neighbor's 2.8 LWB Paj gets 12/13L 100km's mixed.

I find that she smokes a little more with esso diesel,at start up she gives a basketball size puff and then shes good for the rest of the day. For the most part i like to run husky diesel as i find i smoke less and get about 50 km more per tank

ERG valve removed. What a difference! NO smoke at all! Running more agile now. I save 20 minutes(to and from work) of driving time daily now!Pajerist wrote:13,41-14,02L/100km 90% city driving. Now I'm hooked......hey folks I take exception to removing EGR valves, by all means take them out and clean them but don't run without it, please. We all breath this air and every little bit makes a difference. We only have 9 years to reduce our CO2 emmisions by 80% or glaciers will be totally melted, rivers will dry up, irrigation will be gone, people, many people will be buying food and water and willing and able to pay more for it than you and I. Sounds like an awful lot of angry, hungry, thirsty people, like billions of them. Wars have started over less important issues.................food (!) for thought. I am not yanking your leg, read 'How are we going to feed China' its an eye opener!

There are many more chemicals being put into the atmosphere by leaving the EGR valve in place. CO2 is not one the worst thing that can be put into the environment, it is simply the only thing governments seem to focus on thus we have EGR valves installed because the Government has control over the vehicle industries.wine wrote:Now I'm hooked......hey folks I take exception to removing EGR valves, by all means take them out and clean them but don't run without it, please. Why do we have 9 years? Not 8,5 or 10 ...? LOLwine wrote:We only have 9 years to reduce our CO2 emmisions by 80% or glaciers will be totally melted, rivers will dry up,
"Global warming" is a HUGE SCAM. Have a look here http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 9443&hl=en#
Ice is actually growing, not melting and plants NEED CO2 to grow...

Re: How much do you guys smoke and what grade of diesel ? MP
The EGR valve is used to reduce NOx not CO2 emissions. I know of a Deli that couldn't pass NOx w the EGR removed...................I didn't think there was anyone left that was still being duped by Big Oil and Big Coals propaganda trying to save their industries
. Have you been to Whistler lately? Take a look at the progression of pictures of the glacier, it has receeded hundreds of feet. There is one glacier in New Zealand growing due to a local anomoly. Do you not believe the pictures of the huge masses of ice that are calving off the ice in both the Arctic and Antarctic and the swiss cheese that Greenland has become? No, global Climate change is here, and accellerating due to mans' use of fossil fuels. The only question yet unanswered is when will we hit the tipping point of no return; some of the scientists say before 2020, some 2030, others are even more optomistic. For billions of people no glaciers mean no fresh water for drinking or irrigation which means no food or water, so they will buy it with their huge trade surplus which means huge price increases for food for those of us that can afford it and the rest of the world starves until the war over food and water begins.................
we have cut down 80% of the trees that existed on the earth just 300 years ago............if we plant 10 billion trees in the next month, that's only three each we can buy ourselves another 5 years to get it fixed permanently. That's time enough to replace all non- renewable/polluting electric power generation w renewable solar, wind, and geo-thermal like Germany, Spain, Denmark, and Ontario are doing.
Burn waste vegy oil or bio from waste vegy oil! but don't eat that GMO Canola....its killing you!

With all respect, I see you did not bother yourself to learn http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 9443&hl=en# otherwise you would have another opinion about Greenland...also, how less pollution (I doubt ERG valve clean gases LOL) from my Pajero can save trees?wine wrote:we have cut down 80% of the trees that existed on the earth just 300 years ago............if we plant 10 billion trees in the next month, that's only three each we can buy ourselves another 5 years to get it fixed permanently. If you want to save trees, - do not cut them! Build from stones and bricks like the rest of the World does, not from lumber. In Europe buildings serve people for 500 years and even more, in Canada you have to rebuild every 60-80 years I guess, wasting lumber again and again... "job creation" you know LOL...

Re: How much do you guys smoke and what grade of diesel ? MP
Very true, however the steel industry is very bad for the environment and stone and concrete structures would not survive earthquakes without rebar. Wood is one of the best materials for building out of because it can absorb the energy from an earthquake, it is renewable and if we play it smart the lifespan of these buildings can still be hundreds of years. Take a look at the Swiss Alps as an example of how wood structures can survive avalanches etc and still be in excellent condition hundreds of years later.Pajerist wrote:With all respect, I see you did not bother yourself to learn http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... I do believe in global warming, but not necessarily on the same scale as what some scientists are suggesting.
