tires... 30"x9.5r15

Post by surferboy »

Hey guys i know this has been covered before, but i am due for a new set of rubbers before winter hits.. i just want to confirm that FOR SURE, a 30"X9.5R15 will fit on the van without any lift or mods.. my van is stock with the torsion bars cranked up, also, any opinions about bridgestone all terrain revo's? I know that bfg's are really popular but was told that they are overpriced and also read some bad reviews about them on many tire review sites on the net.. you see them everywere cause they look cool type thing and pay for the name etc... any advise would help, i'm after function and performance, not bling! Thx

31s fit on my van with no lift just cutting and bashing... 30s shouldn't even need the cutting i don't think... but i guess they could rub. I don't think so tohugh,

They will fit just fine... I have 235/75/15's for my winter tires, and they are pretty much the same size. You wont have any problems.

How much does cranking the torsion bar actualy lift the deli?like over an inch?and does it make the ride more geh geh geh ?(those were my sound effects of hitting pot holes and other not smooth surfaces.)

can raise it a few inches... mine was drooping forward pretty bad, and with the torwion bars it went an inch past level with the back, which was why i added the longer shackles. I can't remember how the ride changed but I believe it was better. The rough sounds hitting holes is more likely due to wrn out bushings, you may also want to look into new shocks. They are cross referencedsomewhere here.

I run with 30x9.5 r15 and they fit perfectly. I have the UNiroyal Laredo AWT. For the beefy-ness they are very quiet on highway and have performed well in muddy conditions. Looking forward to seeing how they do this winter in the snow.

Thanks for the input everyone, been doing some research around, bfg's are michelin's lower end product, they are both manufactured at the same plant.. bfg's are a heavier tire with lots of rubber in them making them difficult to balance but they are the cheapest around for what you get..(costco 790$ for 4 tires installed taxes in etc..) I was told that toyo open country is a good product and yokohama geolander ats are good as well..everybody seems to have the same opinion about the bridgestone dueler revo's...EXCELLENT TIRES but then big $$$ michelin makes a decently priced all terrain tire its the at-2's but only in 235/75r15's, no 30's in that model plus its one of their newest tires so have yet to prove itself.... I don't know, with my money situation, i might have to settle for the bfg's from costco, i had a set of 31'sX10.5 on my toyota pick-up and they seemed fine.. although keeping in mind that a toyota pick-up weigh's almost nothing compare to the 4,500 pounds delica van! so whatever, will have to find out soon enough! i'll keep you guys posted!

I wasn't impressed with the Dueler A/T Revo's good for highway is all. Same with the Geolander's, several guys tried them on work trucks but they wear fast and don't clean themselves well - just get gummed up in the muck.

There is a less known brand Dean mud and snow or something. A nice tread, tough, reasonable cost - working good on a friend's company truck which gets tons of miles on gravel and pavement.

If price is an issue for you you could try the Sport King A/Ts. They are Bfgs old tread design. Or try calling trieland in bby ask for Ali. last time i bought a set of bfg a/ts of him he was the lowest price around at the time. personally though the michelins are great for the road but off road the Bfgs are a lot better. the bfgs also have a thicker side wall. my 2cents.

Thanks again, unfortunately, i live on the island and the ferry cost to get over the mainland plus fuel/food makes a 200$ discount not even worthwhile! (should have listen to myself when i was down in california last month!) plus if something were to happend to the tires, then i would have to get back over where i bought them to get them warrantied... it sounds more and more like a bfg all terrain from costco is the way to go for my buck..I could warranty them at any costco accross canada as well... they also offer to fill them with nitrogen which does not expand or retract with temperature changes...constant psi in all conditions...
i'm still open to more input before i go buy them though, so keep it coming! cheers!

The BFG AT's are superb in the snow and mud, but for the first half of there wear life are notorious rock throwers.

If the nitro costs extra, dont waste your money. I could explain why if you really like but the basic explanation, normal compressed air is something like 85% nitrogen, the bottled stuff is around 97% (figures off the top of my head, may be out a couple percent but you get the idea). Since there is atmospheric air in your tires to start with (78% nitrogen, unless you fill them in a vacuum or nitrogen pure room), the percent of nitro in your tires ends up around 92%. Not going to make it worth it.
If anyone wants the exact numbers to argue against, I can get the Honda engineering test reports for it.
On the other hand, if it is free, then why not.
