I went in to see where the snow level was on our way back from Penticton last weekend.

You can forget Whipsaw to be free of snow for a while.

The snow starts just past the horse barn and unless you have cat tracks, you won't make it a foot.

Some Rovers tried to make it through last weekend

Also talked to a few of the Rover Lander crew via VHF on Thurs or Fri and met up with them on Sat. They came in through Champion Creek up to Lodestone and were on 5-6 feet of snow at times. On Friday it took them 8 1/2 hours to go 1.5 kms. They camped at Lodestone lake Friday night then headed down to Coalmont Sat.

Looks like late August/early September 'may' be dry enough to roll through. Before that, would be interesting though. Bring the mud tires !

Makes me want to throw on chains and dig through...

Update on the trail :

Toyo's made it but it won't be for another few weeks till it gets doable with Delica's.

One of the Toyo's hydrolocked the engine and had to get pulled out. Some crossings (mandatory) are too high unless you have a snorkel.

Update : Whipsaw is passable now from start to finish.

The Whipsaw is open for regular business as of this weekend.

There was only one spot with snow, and that was going down toward Wells Lake, and it was maybe 4" deep, and one on side of the trail, so the trail is snow free. Mud wasn't a problem, either, as long as you stay on the trail.

On August the 20/22 weekend, there will be a large BC4x4 group heading through the whipsaw going in from the backside.

I spoke with two of the organizers and Delica's, JDM's are welcome if anyone is interested in going. Should make for a fun trip with the different approach than we took last year.

Ray and I are planning a small group expedition through the Whipsaw trail starting August 20th. Let me know if any of you are interested. We're going to be taking our time over the weekend and stopping many places to explore and take photos.

Dates: Saturday, Aug 20th - 22nd, 2011
Meeting place/time: Tim Hortons at 7670 Vedder Road, Chilliwack, leaving at 11:00am sharp. Distance: 50 miles / 80 kilometers (trail distance)
Trail time: 10-12 hours
Difficulty (1-5): rating (2.0 - 3.5)
Vehicle classes: High-clearance, 4x4, limited slip differential or lockers would be handy, large tires >32" suggested, winch and /or tow strap maybe be required. (especially for Ray... he he he)

Tim Hortons at 7670 Vedder Road, Chilliwack[/url], at approximately 10am to 10:30am. We will be LEAVING Tim Hortons at 11:00am exactly. Don't be late! The plan is to convoy up the Coquihalla and going in the back way through Brookmere, which is apparently shorter and more scenic. Jason from CruisinOffRoad has done this way before so we should be fine.

Do you need a lift and a snorkel on a l400 to go through the water or can a stock l400 do whipshaw no problem?

Last year, a stock L300 and L400 SWB and LWB made it through.

Take a look through RichD's whipsaw run last year. Two stock L400's. One SWB and one LWB. They did nicely.
