Wet Floors anybody?

yeah, digitalart, my van looks exactly like yours, same color except mine is the roof with no windows but still higher like a crystal lite roof.. i also have a hide-a-hitch package plus a ladder on the back hatch and a winch on the front bumper.. i'm in victoria honk if you see me! i'm planning on painting the push bumper black on mine and i want to try to find one of those black covers skirt things that fits over the front of the van around the lights to protect the paint, you see them on newer VW vans, i don't know if these things can get made for delicas but i think it would look neat.. anybody knows if these things were even made for delicas at all?
oh yes, the wet floors uh, what kind of sikaflex did you use?

The problem is most likely caused by the leaky 1/4 panel seam, but another possible culprit for the wet floor syndrome is a leaky windscreen seal!

When I had the problem, I sprayed a very light dusting of talc around the widscreen seal and also up under the pedals. That way I could trace the flow of any water and work out which to tackle first.

As it turns out, mine was the windscreen rubber, and seeing as I had a crack in the screen, I just got my insurance company to replace it for free and a new seal was fitted with the new screen!

Dry floors again! :lol: :lol:

Hey Gents,

This is all great info! I'll check my windshield screen first and then tackle the quarterpanel seam. I'm amazed at how soggy it can get down there on the flats with no apparent water leaking in. Hey Mitch, I'm the guy with lady friend (wife) in Richmond. Thanks for tuning me in to this site. And BCDelica, it is Biodiesel Zach. I wish I had read that before digging into my 1/4 panel the other day. Those fricken screws - especially the one just under the window seal - ate up a good hour or more trying to get it loosened enough to remove it to just inspect the panel (but without success! My back was aching from being seized up all day). Time to invest in that impact driver! I suspected my problem may also be a leaky windscreen seal too, then. I was able to put my hand most of the way up the 1/4 panel seal, but didn't notice any degraded sealant or wetness ... at least not the bottom 2/3rds. The first time I had it off in the rain (back half was in rain, front under cover), I could see water dripping - streaming, actually - down from directly under the edge of the windscreen, about 3-4" outwards from the seam we're talking about. More towards the signal pod area.

I'm not sure if this is actually collecting in the footwells, but it hasn't caused the tinyest problem - yet. It's perfectly clean under my carpets - like new paint, no muck, rust, etc. Impact driver next...

Hey Surferboy!

I've already had two people say they saw my van, but it must have been you! Once on Fort St., and another time on the Malahat. One other guy driving a white Deli toasted me with his coffee mug as he drove by. It's like owning a Harley or something ... but way, way cooler.

I got the white tube of Sikaflex. It comes in black too. I'm not sure of any other differences, besides the colour choice. I used it to re-glue on a plastic foot-pad on the driver side door frame. Great stuff.

hummm, fort street, yup , and malahat yepper, that must have been me! hey guys, by the way it might sound stupid to you but what do you guys mean by the windscreen, i'm actually curious if its not were mine still leaks from... what a pain in the ass anyways, i'm waiting for an opportunity to re-do mine since it stills leaks after re-doing the quarter pannel seam..also, key two auto on burnside right next to lordco got me some luber finner filters for pretty cheap according to what i got quoted elsewere in town, i got oil filter for 29.50, and he can get me the air filter for 21$, decent i thought, i told him about the movement of us taking over the world with our loafes of bread on wheels and he is gonna look into getting us parts for a reasonable price... cheers! BTW, i have been seing a white crystal roof in town a few times lately, see you guys around town!!

common someone, what the heck is the "windscreen" and how do you get at it to see if thats were the leak comes from! are you guys talking about that "grill" that's between the headlights right behind the bullbar? (sorry if i sound ignorant to this, you'l have to excuse me, I'M FRENCH!) get up from that christmas hangover and keep up on those posts folks! happy holliday everyone!

hey surferboy, windshield/windscreen. it's what the queen calls the piece of glass in front of your face when you're driving. i lived in england for a good while, you get used to it.

thanks breadman, i just really couldn't picture the floors being that wet from a leaky windshield seal, i mean you would see the water dripping on the inside of it as well i would imagine..

My leak seems to be coming from the windscreen seal too, not from the poorly welded seam. I noticed a patch of wetness on the inside of my window, running down the pillar (window frame), and I guess it's enough in this insipid weather to pool in the passenger side footwell.

Well, at least that's solved the question of where it's coming in, now how easily can this be fixed at local (BC) windshield repair places? Anybody have any experience getting glass or seals replaced for a Delica in BC?

Could you just use a silicon sealant around the edge of your windscreen as a temporary fix (get us through the winter?)

anybody would happend to know how to remove the cool box so i can take the front carpet right out to get it cleaned and dryed properly? i mean i'm about to cut the damn thing! also anybody experiencing overly noisy wipers like at the end of each cyle, this loud clunking noise?

great tip for fixing leaking quarter panel for this topic. it's really very helpful to all the members specially experiencing this kind of problem.

great resources with detailed pictures and procedures.

i've experiencing wet floors during rainy season here in Manila, Philippines. if time prevails will check also if leaking from pasenger and driver side coming from the quarter panel.

Hey everybody, after an unsuccessfull attempt to fix the quarter pannel leaky seam on my van by the guys were i bought it from, i decided to tackle the problem myself since i now have a garage at my new house and re-did the whole thing! took all the old sealant off, grinded the whole area down to bare metal, primed it, painted it,(a couple of good coats..)
and re-sealed it, let it sit for a good day and a half for the sealant to set, put the whole thing back together and while the paint and sealant was drying and setting,i dismentled the front bullbar and the side step bar under the sliding door, cleaned them, sanded them down to remove the sheen, and repainted the whole thing black with tremclad spraybombs rust paint...LOOKS WAY BETTER!!!! i also repainted the mirror holders and wiper arms, i had the whole van masked off! anyways, i put everything back together and by then off course the rain storm of the century is happening outside, and guess what THE F@#%ing THING STILL LEAKS LIKE A BASTARD!!!! (uh, cool looking bumper though!) i give up, the winshield rubber seal doesn't appear to be leaking as it is bone dry on the inside of it all around it, so were the heck is that water coming from? i can see it drip down from behind the fuse box, behind the peddals, i looked with a flash light as far up behind the dash board as i could, i can't figure it out any similar experience out there? should i go to a windshield shop and get the whole thing taken appart and re-sealed? HEEEEEEEEEEEEEElP!
