dealerships selling delicas
seems there isn't too many indivduals parting with their delicas but maybe we could compile a list of all the different dealerships which are selling them?
i'll start it off.

just for people that would possibly consider using this list of "dealers", i would definatelly NOT recommend vicustomcarimports unless you want troubles! but hey, thats just my advise, people can find out for themselves if they want!

I ony have experience with 2 of the ones on that list... VI ignored me... I repeatedly tried to give them my business, and they never returned any attempt at contact...
abbotsfortjapanauto returned my inital emails promptly, but when I started to get serious about buying a vehicle, they didn't seem interested and stopped replying to me, eventually I gave up with them as well.
I contacted a lot of dealers to try to get my van, and there are only 2 that I can say I was impressed with:
JDM Wholesale http://www.jdm-wholesale.ca
**** EDIT: removing my recomendation for Luxury imports due to their recent change in attitude slandering the entire import process, flinging baseless accusations at other importers and exporters, and admission of illegal importing ****
I ended up going with JDM Wholesale, and although it has been a slow process (I bought from auction in Japan instead of from their Canadian stock) they have had excellent communication all the way, have been easy to work with, and have stood behind their product, even when they didn't have to. All in all, I highly recommend them to anyone interested in importing a Delica (or any JDM vehicle) their website indicates that they have some Delicas in stock right now too.

Re: dealerships
this is why i thought it would be a good idea to have a list. so it is easier for people new to the market to locate and sift through all the junk out there and find what they're loooking for.surferboy wrote:just for people that would possibly consider using this list of "dealers", i would definatelly NOT recommend vicustomcarimports unless you want troubles! but hey, thats just my advise, people can find out for themselves if they want!
i too am having the same problem with VI as it seems everyone is. they don't seem too concerned with replying to calls or emails.
they absolutely have no idea or care about professionalism, they have another primary business to take care of which is their real business, they specialise in custom trailer manufacturing and the delica import thing is a sideline that they let some useless kid run, they just simply have no time for anybody and they are just riding a wave of popularity to make a buck on the side,.. their delicas are in pretty rough shape and they quickly put them thru the inspection to get them out the door as quick as they can, you want after sale customer service? forget about it, you are considered a pain in the arse to them if you are persistent at all, its like everytime i call i get this "oh no, not that winer again!" vibe. my delica was in less than average shape , i have had problems with my turbo which they have attempted to fix but still appear to be leaking, the usual quarter pannel leak which they have also attempted to fix but still leaks! the wiring job that they did for the daytime running lights was blowing fuses left right and center cause they were taping into already dedicated fuses i mean the list goes on, even their own mechanics were telling me as they were working on my van, "if i were you, i'd get rid of that thing!" their own guys telling me this! oh man, stay away my advise!

bought mine from maximum overdrive in richmond. I think the fellow's name is Sabir. He opens at 12 but isn't always there, there is a number on the door you can call and he will show up in 10 or 15 minutes usually. I really did buy the first one I looked at, but it was because it was the only 5 speed I could find for sale anywhere. I haven't had to go back, ended up paying 8500 taxes and all for my 89 L300 chamonix with 89 000 km. From what I have heard it was a fair price, and I have had no problems.

First time posting on this forum. I just purchased a mint '91 Delica Super Exceed from VI and have been extremely pleased with all aspects of the purchase (communication, feedback, etc). The vehicle is equal to any vehicle I've seen advertised through Luxury Imports and far less expensive. As with the purchase of any used vehicle, given the age and the $9.9K purchase price, the purchaser must be diligent with respect to the condition and inspection. That having been said I don't have any unrealistic expectation from the seller, given they are only making at most a couple of K$ profit.
We've already put a couple of K Kms (skiing upand down Mt Washington)and the unit works flawlessly. I must say after some initial hesitation I absolutely love this vehicle :D , the only problem is that I want to drive it and I bought it for my wife. May have to get another

auction stats
If you type into google japan auction stats you can see exactly what these vehicles sell for at auction.
chances are most curbsiders are making much better than 2k profit

Japan Auction Prices
That's amazing! I did as you suggested and googled "japan auction stats" and found that used Delicas around 1991/92 are selling for $500 to $800 USD in Japan. What can it cost to bring them over, prepare them for sale, and fix anything needed? $3000-$4000 at most? That makes it a profit of about $5000 each. More than any NEW car Dealer makes per viehicle...
Maybe we car "dicker" more on local pricing, and expect better service on ones we have already purchased.
I think you're right, the re-sellers are making BUNDLES on these sales...
Just my opinion

this is why we get such good quality vehicles over here, the purchase price is nothing compared to getting it here... so you might as well spend the extra $100 to get a top grade vehicle.
There are certainly people on this site that have done the import themselves rather than use an importer, and they seem to be able to save in the neighbourhood of $4000, I did not however go that route as I wasn't comfortable doing it... but I may "next time"
A decent importer does add value to the transaction, they know the system and do all the paperwork for you, they have the contacts in the right places, and (a good importer) will stand behind the vehicle they sell if it has problems. It's up to the buyer to decide what that extra is worth, I decided it was worth it to me.

I think crap ones average that cost, but I never seen good Delicas for that cheap. In fact 2 that I tried to bid on that were condition 4, low Km's and were very clean vehicles went over $4300 for one and the another went $5650, I lost the first auction by $300 and the second by $165. These are extreme examples but I would say the average in the last few months is 1/2 to 2/3 of those prices. I think thats why its important to have a copy of the auction sheet.
