max tire size
can't find a definitive answer as to the Max Tire size a stock L400 can take, anyone know? I think I asked on the UK or aussie site a while back and was told 31" with about the same amount to trimming as on an L300, can anyone confirm or bust this please? thanks.

Re: max tire size
The standard L400 alloy is 6.5 inch and from the factory has 225/80x15 Bridgestone Duelers. That is not a common size here so they are complied with 235/75r15 which is slightly wider and about the same height depending on the brand and tread pattern. Some 235s a bigger than other 235s which makes it a bit tricky. The next size up is 245 which is very uncommon and after that is 255/70r15 which is a bit big for 6.5s but will fit but i would be reluctant to let them down to 20psi for sand as they may roll off. Some silly people have been known to put on 265/70r15(10r) but that is just asking for trouble especially if you run low pressure. So to answer your question. Unless you want to find yourself in the middle of nowhere looking for an unusual size tyre because you have wrecked one of yours, common sense restricts you to 235/75r15 or (9.5r).. However with a minimum of moding to front guards, you can put on any sort of Pajero 7" rims which allows you to safely go to 255 or even 265 depending on the brand and tread pattern. I have Pajero mags and have run both 265s and 255s which I have on at the moment. This probably hasn't helped you at all but it is about a good an answer that you will get..
A 2 inch lift helps with more aggressive tyres in the bigger sizes. Cheers

Re: max tire size
your max tire size will be determined by the stance of your van, my royal is Stock height, and I run 235/75R15 bfg all terrains, I have enough room to put on tire chains and not hit the wheel wells or body panels when turning , so I could go to a larger tire, but I also have newer rear springs, so there is no sag in them. a soft rear set of springs and worn front end will demand a smaller tire , so with out actually seeing your van, its hard to say 100% what is the best size for your tires, my lifted van has 33's with loads of room to spare.

Re: max tire size
This got me to thinking. I occasionally have the front tires rub against the wheel-well when i am turning and going up a moderate incline. Is there a good way to just remove the material the tire is rubbing on? It looks pretty straightforward.

Re: max tire size
one thing to look into, is are you rubbing on the Inside or the Outside? is your drivers side tire rubbing on far left turns? or far right turns, Ive seen people trim the fenders and make lots of clearance, put on a nice flare to keep it clean and still be rubbing on turns, only to find they were actually rubbing on the inside , not the outside all along...

Re: max tire size
G'day.. I just put up a thread showing how(with photos) to modify front guards to fit Pajero mags and up to 265s as long as they are not big chunky mud tyres. Preferably 255s which are an inch or so wider and 2 inches higher. Keep in mind I will never have to fit snow chains so that is not taken into account . Cheers.
