Re: Loud knocking, shaking, then died on hwy...

You're right, the timing belt did have noticeable flex in it. I'm going to go ahead and replace the belts and tensioners as suggested. Will get those ordered. In the meantime, I'll try resetting the timing then testing the injectors. Hopefully that fleshes out the issue. Thanks again everyone.

I think the timing is alright. See photos of all the marks.

I'm going to try and find a diesel specialist that can assist in removing/testing the injectors next.

Re: Loud knocking, shaking, then died on hwy...

Thanks for the feedback.

We did turn the crank and watch the valves and beside them needing to be adjusted, everything looked fine and turned as it should.

I'll look at the pump timing, any recommendations on how to clean/check the actual injectors?

Re: Loud knocking, shaking, then died on hwy...

I was able to loosen the belts and check the pulley and it's as tight as can be. No wobble or looseness. To that end, all the belts and pulleys are tight. I also pulled off the timing belt cover to check the timing marks but turns out the marker piece is missing, broken off or something. See the pho...

Re: Loud knocking, shaking, then died on hwy...

Thanks all for the continued feedback. I'll probably just pull off the pulley and inspect it to rule it out either way. I have an EGR blanking plate but I'll check to make sure that it's all tight. If both of those prove to be alright, I'll have to dig into the timing belt. Unfortunately I'm tied up...

Re: Loud knocking, shaking, then died on hwy...

I checked out the pulley and it seems alright. It's tight and there doesn't seem to be any damage. Belts are relatively tight as well. See pics.

Great, that's where I'll start! I'm planning on getting the van back to my house tomorrow so I'll report back then. Thanks!

Loud knocking, shaking, then died on hwy...

I'll preface this by saying that I'm not all the savvy when it comes to understanding/troubleshooting issues with my '87 deli but I've done some repairs and have enjoyed learning through each. With that said, I'm looking for some help on where to start with this one. I've noticed over the last few w...

Re: At long last! Greetings from the USA

Any interest in a PDX deli meet late May? I'll be down that way for a couple of weeks then
Didn't see this until now but I did see your Delica parked 2 blocks from my house on Tues! Small world. I'm on 29th and Alberta. PM me if you're still in town. Want to get a closer look at that beast.

A little pressure is all you need - http://www.mdocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopi ... e1fd416ea3

Let me know how those seals work out. I tried some aftermarket channel runners and they didn't work. Sourcing a vanwagon is a good idea.

Re: The clicking persists!

I finally sorted out the clicking and it wasn't a solution I had heard on any of the forums. I always suspected part of the electrical problems were due to moisture. The van spend 2 months at sea being shipped over from New Zealand and when I picked it up there was mold growing everywhere. The previ...

Re: Anti-theft Kill Switch?

Thanks lrp374, this is great! Super helpful. If it's not to much trouble to get a schematic I'd be much obliged. Trying to get after this one this weekend so I'll keep you posted on my efforts. Cheers.

Re: Anti-theft Kill Switch?

This is great, thanks for the ideas. My AC doesn't work so I was thinking about wiring it to the the AC switch. Or I thought it would be fun to have multiple switches whereas there would be a secret combination - probably won't do that one but sounded fun ;) The switch operates a relay which control...
