Poor mans L400 awning

Post by EricE »

I finally got around to posting this , Needed an awning for a road trip this summer , this was a cheap solution that held up to rain and wind storms.
Those are 2 inch auto body suction cups from princess auto , extending tent poles from Surplus Herby's a few tent pegs and some line total about $30 worth of stuff. The poles could be either angled out from the van or placed vertical.

Embarrassment alert! You have to make sure the van is very clean under the cups, and even a bit wet is best. If you have some dust on there (like after climbing logging roads) the cup will seemingly stick well enough at first, but at the first good wind gust, it'll all come down on your head while you're sitting on your chair drinking beer and enjoying the view. Don't ask how I know. :-D
