Custom Roof Rack

Post by jpk503 »

Thought I would share the custom roof rack I designed and had built. Nothing super fancy but I was looking for a safari basket but didn't want it too high or long - I find most to be more than necessary. I also wanted it to carry shortboards (surfboards) so need a removable rack in the middle. I had a local welder take my dims and have it done in bare steel for $650 USD. I primed it and hit it with DupliColor truck bed liner.

I'll be putting a ladder up the side to make it more accessible. Looking forward to putting a sleeping pad up there for some summer nights.

Dims -
8' long
5' wide
5" high

That looks really good, as does the deli. Careful you don't roll off during the night!

Nice!! Nice to see it on my computer other than Instagram! I want something like this as well, same with the middle part so I can carry a canoe. How much does it weigh? Is that 3/4" tubing you have it made from? Nice work!

It's 1' tubing and weighs about 75lbs by my rough estimates.
