Actually, speaking of kids and road rage...

...My wife use to watch a three year old girl, when we lived in Vancouver. One day my wife, the girl, and our kids were walking down on Broadway, which is a busy road. The girl suddenly stops, turns to the cars driving by on the road, and begins shouting, "Idiots! They're all idiots! Idiots!" Hmm, I wonder where she picked that up from? :?

That could be me addressing the "brightest" drivers but I usually swear in Russian which is really brutal 8-)
Seriously, as I stated above the problem is that police is not involved in this really bad situation AT ALL and this is why it is getting worse. When I came to Canada I was impressed with 'polite' drivers. Now I can see that 'polite' means 'ignorant' stopping at every intersection to yield with no reason, treating Stop as 4-way Stop, and everything else mentioned in this thread. If we add the absence of the visible routine traffic enforcement on the streets we get a disaster. This is how I define the current local traffic situation. Canadian drivers were taught to be 'politically correct' which means that if I flash my head lights asking a slow one driving in the fast lane to get off my way I am recognized as an aggressive driver and can be punished with a single phone call. I am thinking about installing a camcorder to take priceless video clips while driving.

I've been involved in road rage a few times... I was driving correctly and someone cut me off, I give him the WTF? gesture (palms and shoulders up, while shaking my head). He slammed on the brakes to the point where he lost control a little bit, pulled over sideways on the sidewalk/road got out quickly to give me a piece of his mind. Well, I got out too, and I think this made him rethink his behavior... I am not a small man... but he was average and young. I'm a bit of a gentle giant most of the time and I was calm enough to simply ask what his issue was. He stumbled on a somewhat incoherent rant about 'who the hell I think I am'... and so on... I remember thinking how I would have easily hurt him in ways that would make his Mama cry. And how completely senseless his actions were, while not only driving recklessly he was wasting my time (and his), and could have been seriously putting us both in danger. I simply asked him what his intentions were when he pulled over. He shut right up (I think to rebuild his composure and look more grown up) and said that he didn't appreciate my gesture. I asked him again, 'what was your reason to pull over like a maniac after you had cut me off?' This time I could see the attitude come back... he started again with the same BS and yelled all the way back to the car... "I don't know who you think you are... blah, blah, blah..." I just stood there watching him in amazement... I could tell that he was concerned about his actions and that he was doing his best to save face... literally and figuratively.

I remember thinking while he ranted... what if my children were in the car? Or what would my wife do? If he was that quick to react to me without seeing me, would he think that he can intimidate/victimize people by yelling (or worse) at someone smaller then himself. And he only started to back down once he noticed my size and tattoos. It makes me nervous to think that people can be that irate and react without even thinking that the other person might be bigger then them, or have a weapon.

People need to be reminded that we will not except this attitude at all and we need to call the police anytime this sort of behavior happens. The more we engage in calling the police the more likely people will stop this behavior.
