Reminds me of a "little" incident I had a while ago with one of my wheels.
Did you hand tightened the bolts or did you use a torque wrench?
Do you use a gasket between the flange and the hub?

i tightened the bolts with on air wrench

i do not recall putting a gasket in there. if the hubs didnt come with it, and maybe i missed it in install posts.. i would not have done it. im gonna repack my bearings next week...

Adding a gasket could help. At least it would keep the water out and the grease in. I still have a few left over. PM me your address and I'll drop a couple in the mail...

Here is the damage from driving with loose manual hubs:
Image

note the missing teeth at 5 o'clock

and here is what happens when your hubs are not locked:
Image

the rear wheels slid sideways and off the road. a tree stopped me from rolling. i only got a tiny dent onth corner of the door, even the lights were spared! another Delica came down to pull me out. then i went to the bottom and took a run at it and got up

i put the Autos back on
i have one Yijia Manual Hub for sale, and parts for another

The Aisin's are literally bulletproof with the only wear internally being the collar sleeve and that's a big if.

I've never in my life seen Aisin's shear like that at a specific area (not the entire circumference) and cannot find a single person who has either hubs tight or loose.

There are chinese copies of Aisin's floating around and they may look identical to Aisin's but the metal/casing/sleeve's may not be up to Aisin's tolerances and you may get slop. If you get slop, then premature wear may be a reality down the road.

Not sure what your Aisin copies look like but these are what real Aisin's look like for a comparison and the last pic is the sleeve that tends to wear over time and be replaced.

ouch. sorry to hear. if you have both sides sheared like that, then I'd bet my Safari that it's low grade metal cast.

The superwinch hubs are adequate :-)

Whoa guys!!!

Those teeth are missing on purpose.
That's where the inner spring threads into the groove.
Seriously!!!
The spring threads in and pulls the unit back etc using
the spring as the unit is locked and unlocked.
Mine are like that as well.

Does that mean that your bet entitles me to your safari?

After Oil, as far as I can tell from the photo, there is nothing wrong with the gear. As Firesong already said these teeth are suppose to be missing for the spring to fit. They are missing on the gear of the Aisin hubs (photos) as well.

I should have looked closer. :-? Thought it was the splined shaft collar that the teeth sheared.

Safari's on me ! They're the little drinks with umbrella's, right ? :-D
