1992 Delica: Cuts Out then Restarts Immediately?

Post by Delica Crazy »

My Delica loses all engine power, lights stay on and music etc. I had my mechanic check the cables and batteries connections and they are golden. Infact he's super impressed with how Tokyo Daisy (that what we call her) runs. However he's gobbed smack beyond that point. I had an Acura that ran into this trouble and it was the Relay Power Switch. She cut out on me twice. Its been approx 10 days between each event. If it is the Relay then I expect that it will do it again in a week the 4 days then 2 then not start again.

Am I right in my assumption? Does anyone have another ideas?

I'm trying to not take it to Japanoid and spend lotsa money in having them do an electrical search. We all know how long that takes. I'm sure this has happened to someone else.

let me know. Thanks

Hey John,
Could be your ignition - I'd try jiggling the keys as it's running in park to see if you can replicate the cutting out.

Could be your fuel pump solenoid - I only say this because I remember a post on here a while back mentioning there's an solenoid related to the fuel pump that if it shorts/dies you just don't get any fuel. (Try a search re. fuel pump solenoid)

I've zero personal experience with Japanoid but from what I've gathered from this site I would steer clear of them.
CVI is one of the most hightly recommended places to have repairs done - search for CVI here and you'll find details.

Hey John,
Sounds like your problem is related to the fuel pump. A diesel engine shuts off differently to a gas engine. Diesel engines shut off by turning the fuel supply (pump) off which sounds like what is happening to you. All other electrics will remain on. I believe there is a relay or solenoid relating to the fuel pump - not sure which off the top of my head - that switches the fuel pump. Check for loose wiring connections related to that and ensure the relay or solenoid is working correctly. Hopefully that will narrow the search a bit.

I have a place in Davis Bay also. I am sure we will run into each other when we come out for our summer holiday. Such a nice town!
Cheers!
Ian

You may need to replace fuel return valve solenoid.
We have it in stock_new.
