Another glow plug thread!

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Another glow plug thread!

Post by maxpowers »

Hey guys.
I just swapped out my glowplugs. For the start of the cold months. And when I went to start it up I had to wait a really long time for the second click like 10-15 seconds. After that it clicks over really rapidly about 5 times then stops.
This morning it started then died immediately and when I tried to restart it the relay just clicked on and off. Eventually I just had to give it a hard start.
I think I must have done something wrong when I put the bus bar on or something.
I reconnected the 2 wires to the number 3 glowplug where they were before.
But I am wondering about the temp sensor? Where is is exactly.
Thanks

temp sensor is located just after the upper rad hose, on the hard piping beside the injection pump.

There seems to be a problem with resistance of the new glow plugs....every time people add new glow plugs instantly the system stops working....

We need to get an order of OEM or equivalent plugs going.....every glow plug thread seems to go this way...

My VW 1.6NA diesel need Bosh plugs. Every other plug I tried burned out in months and would not start it at -30C. Bosh pliugs cost $40.00 each....

I wonder if they make a plug for the 4D56T?

Please post what plugs you put in or think you put in (seems like some OEM ones are not).

If you have a working Super Quick Glow Plugs Control System, Hyundai 11V glow plugs are not working for your van.

Here are quick answer for 11V Hyundai glow plug application.

1. In the early model ( before Aug 1993 ) delica L300 and Pajero with perfect working control system with 6.2V , 11V Hyundai glow plugs basically do not work.
2. If you have a manual control system in your 6.2V system due to whatever reasons , 11V Hyundai ones work.
3. Hyundai 11V glow plugs work excellent for all 4M40 engine and late model L300 and pajero ( 4D56 ).

If you have different system other than 6.2 V, you may have another problem.

I just replaced the Mitsu "green tops" as two of them were pooched.

I replaced with the NGK2160's, I picked up at NAPA. (6.2v)

Before installing them, I tested them with the "hot wire" technique.

I observed a slower hot period (7 seconds) vs the Mitsu's (4 seconds)

The bus bar was cleaned and a small amount of dielectric grease was used on all the contacts.

Its still early days but the NGK's seem ok.

(I also have the manual switch, which I advise)
Thanks,

White Mule

Looking at the Chassis number for which glow plugs work on which motors I do not think the Glow Plug interchangeability that people have been using is right.....Or why would Bosch have such a extensive list, when they could just make 2 different models???

I sent an email to Bosch to see if we can get this glow plugs in Canada even if one of the Delica Dealer needs to stock them for us...

I never had luck with the NGK in my VW diesel...that is not to say the Delica ones are not better.

Hyundai has only 11V 'Self Regulating Glow Plug System' in their small diesels since mid 1990's.
So there's no 6.2 V glow plugs in Hyundai Motors.

Mitsubishi threw away 6.2V 'Super Quick Glow Plugs Control System' in 1993.

1) look in the back of the Bosch PDF manual linked above it has all the specs for the glow plugs...threads, volts, dimensions -very handy stuff

2) Bosch plugs retail $11-40.00 so if we can get Bosch to sell them to a distributor we may have a good source for good plugs (OEM in VW / Volvo diesels).

Bosch makes glow plug for Delica but not 6.2 volt. Only HKT, NGK and Mitsubishi Gen makes 6.2 volt as per my knowledge.

On the list they have 6.2volt ones listed this is a 2010 catalogue...full specs are in the back of the book.

GPF-133 6.2Volts (full specs page 54 for the part numbers listed)

The catalogue is from Australia. Maxoverdrive as a dealer do you have access to Bosch can you check if available if you do?

Cheers

a good read on another glow plug thread from across the pond.

some things I noticed researching plugs:
- as others have noticed, there are lots of plug options, there may be different plugs for 4m40 vs 4m40T and such (not sure on this one, cy55 listed for 4m40T)
- just because you have a 4m40 other vehicle apps) does not mean the glow plug system and its plugs are the same
- the 2-3 post glow cycle is a MAJOR factor with respect to which plugs are being used, not all plugs are designed to handle this longer burn time (which has to do with emissions more so than performance) If you use the "cheaper" plugs that may not handle this burn time, just put in a manual kill switch to turn them off after start up and engine is running "smooth".
- NGK CY55 plugs seem to be the way to go from what I have been reading, many are saying it "IS" a mitsubishi plug, without the mitsubishi upgrade in price
- "cy55 glow plug ngk euqiv to old cy05 and bosch gpf-119"
- search cy55 on our forum and this is all old re-circulating info

I'll be trying the cy55 from UK via ebay - http://www.ebay.ca/itm/4-x-NGK-Glow-Plu ... 1139wt_796 $150 shipped / 4 pieces
